Goats in Montauk? Hold Your Horses

A plan to employ goats to remove invasive species in the Arthur Benson Preserve on Old Montauk Highway that Concerned Citizens of Montauk pitched to the East Hampton Town Board last month may sound quaint, but the board lightly tapped the brakes on the proposal on Tuesday when two residents pushed back on the idea, citing a judge’s 1994 ruling that prohibits fencing or any other structures on the roughly 40 acres south of the roadway and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Teens Raise Money to Fight Pediatric Cancer

It's fair to say the Kids Cancel Cancer benefit, coming up on Tuesday, is a sort of positive take on "cancel culture." Four teens and a committee of peers are raising money for cancer research. "Pediatric cancer has affected all of our families in some way," said Mischa Abend, who along with three friends, Hayley Silvers, Ava Litman, and Abey Fuks, is organizing the fund-raiser for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation.

On the Police Logs 08.10.23

A resident of Harbor Avenue in Sag Harbor called police on July 31 when, just before 10 p.m., a man claiming to be with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office knocked on his door and began asking questions about a woman named "Lisa." The man, described as "late 40s or early 50s, wearing a baseball cap and plainclothes, with a shield on a necklace around his neck," provided no identification and left when the resident said he didn't know Lisa. Officers canvassed the neighborhood but couldn't find anyone matching the description.
