Jon M. Diat

Jon M. Diat, who retired in 2017 from his post as chief media spokesman for A.I.G. in New York City, keeps his 30-foot Down East-style boat in Sag Harbor, a short ride from his house on North Haven. He digs clams, surfcasts, traps lobster and blue claw crabs, dredges scallops every November, farms his own oysters, and fishes from the Peconics out to Cox’s Ledge and beyond just about every chance he gets. His first byline came when he was 15 and was the fishing reporter for The Shelter Island Reporter. He wrote the “Happy Hooker” column in the 1990s for Hamptons Scene magazine.
