While James P. Defranco was away from his Shore Road house for an hour on Saturday afternoon, someone stole a pink patio umbrella from his second-story deck. The homeowner said it was worth $100.
East Hampton
A car parked on Crystal Drive was ransacked and items stolen from it, according to Mayra C. Montano, who called police on the morning of Aug. 17. She said $350 in cash was stolen from the center console, and a $600 pair of blue Ray-Ban sunglasses and one of prescription eyeglasses, worth $300, were missing.
East Hampton Village
A tree branch fell from a town-owned tree on Woods Lane onto a stockade fence at about 1:20 p.m. on Aug. 20, causing minor damage.
An intoxicated bicyclist was reported to be causing a traffic hazard Friday on Toilsome Lane at about 9:50 p.m. Police searched the area with negative results.
Police were called to Georgica Beach at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday about a man taking pictures of children and selling them ice cream. An officer spoke to Giovanni Casanova, a 60-year-old from Bohemia, who
said he was taking photographs of children and his ice cream for his Facebook page. The village code prohibits peddling on public property. Police issued him a summons, as well as a parking ticket for blocking a handicapped parking space.
Two men were arguing on Saturday evening at around 8:30 about a car being blocked in, in a North Main Street parking spot. The man who called police said the other man was trying to gain access to his Bentley convertible.
Though a Water Mill woman deposited $1,000 in hundred-dollar bills at a drive-through A.T.M. at the Bank of America on Newtown Lane Sunday afternoon, she told police that the machine only registered $800 on the receipt. The officer suggested she speak to bank management.
Montauk
On Aug. 18, after an Uber driver turned in a pink Chloe women’s purse that had been left in his car, Caitlin McLaughlin of East Northport went to police headquarters in Montauk to claim it. When she opened it, she realized that her Louis Vuitton wallet, worth $300, and its contents, including her driver’s license and credit cards, were missing. An officer contacted the Uber driver, who lives on Staten Island, to come in for an interview.
Loud music coming from a yacht docked at Gurney’s Resort and Marina on Star Island Road led to a fight on the docks at about 1 a.m. on Aug. 16. Security was able to separate all those involved before police arrived. At least one of the men involved was intoxicated and his Men’s Wearhouse shirt was ripped, his nose was bloodied, and his lip was cut. He did not wish to press charges.
A wooden wall in the Village Dune complex on South Emerson Avenue was spray-painted with graffiti sometime between Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 19 at 7:30 a.m. The cleanup cost was estimated at $500.
On Aug. 20, Cynthia J. Hahn reported an Echo backpack leaf blower stolen from her landscape business’s trailer, which had been parked on South Forest Street four days earlier. The trailer was still there while an employee cut the lawn from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The employee called her afterward to report the theft of the $600 item.
A group of friends parked in a private driveway on Second House Road from about 11 p.m. on Aug. 19 to 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 20; they said they had not realized it was private. When they got back to the car, they found three flat tires and a handwritten note. Police found no slash marks in the tires, but the valve caps on the tires had been removed. Police did not reveal what was in the note.
A scuffle broke out on Saturday at about 9 p.m. at Gray Lady on West Lake Drive. Ryan R. Long of Manhattan told police he was trying to separate bouncers and two intoxicated individuals when he was hit in the face, causing a bruise. Another man, Edward A. Agnew III of Wyomissing, Pa., said he suffered abrasions and contusions to his nose and eye area. He refused medical attention. No one involved wished to press charges.
Sag Harbor
A volunteer with the Sag Harbor Fire Department crashed into the WLNG building on Redwood Road on Saturday morning as he was responding to a call on Cornell Road. Robert Pharaoh told police his 2006 GMC pickup had its blue light on when a 2019 Porsche, driven by Jessica Ambrose, made a turn in front of him. He swerved to avoid the Porsche, he said, and crashed into the radio station’s building instead, which sustained some structural damage. No injuries were reported.
Martin Butler arrived at his Eastville Avenue house on Sunday after three weeks away to find flowers and rocks stolen from his front yard — the second such instance this summer. He said 10 large rocks and lilies that were planted to the left of his front door were taken. They were worth $250. Six weeks earlier, Mr. Butler filed a similar complaint.
