The Mighty Montauk Race, celebrating its 45th anniversary on Saturday, starts at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of West Lake Drive and Star Island Road, offering triathlon (1-mile swim, 20-mile cycle, and 6.2-mile run), aqua bike (1-mile swim and 20-mile cycle), and sprint (half-mile swim, 14-mile cycle, and 3.4-mile run) competitions. Registration ends tomorrow at 9 p.m. at mightymontauk.com.
The race benefits the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the St. Therese Youth Group, the East Hampton Police Benevolent Association, and the Montauk Ambulance Squad, among other charities.
A party at Solé East that evening from 5 to 8 p.m. will raise money for the Montauk chapter of the Flow Surf Academy, which provides surfing opportunities designed to help those “with neurodivergent abilities . . . build confidence, develop independence, and find connection through the ocean.”
The evening will include a barbecue, live music by the Holiday Ramblers, and a silent auction and raffle. Tickets cost $80, or $40 for kids 12 and under, and can be bought at bit. ly/49KngMk. Proceeds will help to pay for the program, equipment, permits, and trained water teams that help run the summer surf sessions at Ditch Plain. More about the program can be found at flowsurfacademy.org.
The annual Blessing of the Fleet, sponsored by the Montauk Boatmen and Captains Association, takes place on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the harbor. Dating to 1956, the tradition will see a parade of decorated commercial and sportfishing boats receiving clerical blessings for a safe and bountiful season, followed by the tossing of wreaths into the sea to honor those lost over the past year.
