E.M.S. Training in Montauk

Thu, 11/30/2023 - 08:54

With most first-responder courses taking place in Sag Harbor and Southampton in recent years, a rare chance is coming up that allows prospective emergency medical technicians living farther east to enroll in a state-approved E.M.T.-training program closer to home. It begins Tuesday and runs through Jan. 19.

Those interested in training to become an E.M.T. can sign up for the class, which is being hosted by the Staten Island Emergency Medical Training Center at the St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church school, at 67 South Essex Street. The Staten Island agency has held similar courses throughout the New York

City metropolitan area for 45 years and accepts tuition vouchers offered by the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

The program in Montauk will be taught in a hybrid online/in-person format, though all hands-on skills instruction will take place in person at St. Therese. The course is designed to prepare a student for the E.M.T.-B (or, basic E.M.T.) certification test administered by Suffolk REMSCO, the body that certifies E.M.T.s and paramedics for all of Suffolk County. The phone number for more information is 718-981-9474.
