Shelby Joyce, the daughter of Annie and Peter F. Joyce of Montauk, and John E. Curzake III, a son of Jeanne and John E. Curzake Jr. of Wakefield, R.I., were married on Oct. 10 on a small beach in Narragansett, R.I. The groom’s sister, Emilia Curzake, officiated. A reception followed at the Purslane restaurant in nearby South Kingstown.

The couple met while doing marine observing. The groom, who graduated from the Maine Maritime Academy, worked as a master ship captain and is now in the construction field. The bride, who has a master’s degree from Uppsala University in Sweden, is a fisheries specialist with a focus on marine biology and conservation. She works for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.

On their wedding day, the bride and groom were each attended by their brothers, Peter Joyce and Zachary Curzake. The bride carried a bouquet of antique hydrangeas, orchids, calla lilies, and hanging amaranthus made by her mother, who is a florist.

The couple live in South Kingstown and are planning a February honeymoon to St. John in the United States Virgin Islands.
