Target Will Open on October 11

The Bridgehampton Target lacks the usual red bull’s-eye and bollards seen at most of its sister stores, instead opting for a gray “coastal” palette to appease Southampton Town.

What do Tupelo, Miss., Katy, Tex., Cookeville, Tenn., and Bridgehampton have in common? The four locales will all see the opening of new Target stores this month.

The Bridgehampton Target, set to open to the public on Oct. 11 in the space long occupied by Kmart, is the smallest of eight Targets opening across the country in October, with another in Ohio in November. At 90,000 square feet, however, it will be the largest retail store east of Riverhead, dwarfing even the nearby King Kullen supermarket and the TJ Maxx/Marshalls store.

According to a fact sheet provided by the retailer’s media relations department, it will employ around 120 people. There will be a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks inside the store, which will be distinguished not only by its smaller size relative to other Targets, but by its lack of the standard red bull’s-eye logo. The Bridgehampton store will swap red for gray to “align with the town’s design guidelines” and “reflect its coastal vibes,” the fact sheet says.

The Bridgehampton Kmart closed in October 2024 after 25 years at the location. With its corporate owner struggling and ultimately filing for bankruptcy in 2021, its final years were lean ones. The Bridgehampton store was Kmart’s last remaining full-size location in the continental United States.

Kimco Realty, which operates the Bridgehampton Commons, confirmed in November 2024 that Target would be taking over the space. Extensive renovations began in earnest in the summer of 2025.
