East Hampton High's lacrosse players are faring pretty well: Bonackers contributed to the South Fork Islanders' 10-7 win over Riverhead Saturday, that combined team's second win of the season, and the girls were 1-2 going into yesterday's game at Huntington.

Jessica Sanna's girls team defeated North Babylon 18-11 on Friday after having been thumped 15-2 by Commack in the season-opener on May 5. Sachem North, another powerful Division 1 opponent, won 18-7 here Monday after having taken a 13-3 lead into the halftime break.

The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but East Hampton came back in convincing fashion, winning some draws and converting. The game was definitely within reach midway through the first half, but then, owing to turnovers in the attacking zone and subsequent counters, Sachem North began to pull steadily away.

"Sachem North is a great team -- very athletic with good stick skills," Sanna said afterward. "We played them tough. We just need to get things moving on offense more and need to work on communicating."

Grace Perello, a Pierson High School senior, led the Bonackers with three goals. Laura Calderon, the goalie, made 14 saves.

Perello had eight goals, Emma Rascelles of Pierson had four, and Lucy Short three in the win over North Babylon. Lola Garneau, Chloe Ceva, and Ava Tintle had one each. Asha Hokanson led the team in draw controls and ground balls. Calderon had 14 saves.

As for the boys, Matt Babb, who coaches the Southampton-based South Fork team, said Jack Freel, an East Hampton sophomore attack, and Charlie Corwin, a freshman midfielder, scored goals in the Riverhead game, which was moved at the last minute to from East Hampton to Southampton when it was discovered that boys lacrosse lines had not been added to East Hampton's turf field.

Babb added that Jack Cooper, an East Hampton freshman, had won 17 of 20 face-offs. Pierson's Brindle brothers, Hudson, Cooper, and Chance, figured prominently as well. Hudson, the goalie, made 10 saves, Cooper had a goal and an assist, and Chance had a goal. Of the Southamptoners, Luke Marro, one of Newsday's Top 100 in the sport, had a goal, and Zac Mobius, a fellow attack, scored three.

The Islanders, several of whose key players are recovering from injuries at the moment, bageled Copiague 16-0 in its season-opener before losing 13-5 to William Floyd. At 2-1 going into Tuesday's game at Northport, the squad needed one more W to equal its win total of 2019.
