Virtual Artists-Writers Game Raises $17K for Charity

Thu, 08/20/2020 - 08:25

The Artists have "defeated" the Writers in what was an unusual year for the Artists and Writers Charity Softball Game. Thanks to Covid-19, the two teams competed online, instead of at East Hampton's Herrick Park, to see who could raise more money for local nonprofit organizations.

As of yesterday, the Artists had raised $9,100 to the Writers' $8,560, for a total of $17,660. The beneficiaries are Phoenix House, the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, East End Hospice, and the Retreat.

The Artists' highest donor was N.Y. Fine Interiors, which contributed $1,500. The team benefited from 57 other donations as small as $25 each.

The Writers benefited from three donations of $1,000, from the Ann Liguori Foundation, Paul Winum, and Rick Leventhal. Forty-three other people contributed at least $10.

Each year the winning team is named the home team for the following year, an honor that goes to the Artists for 2021. Next year's game is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 3 p.m., with a rain date of Aug. 28.
