Film Fest's Opening and Closing Films Announced

Jeff Nichols's "Loving" explores a landmark Supreme Court case that overturned laws against interracial marriage.

The Hamptons International Film Festival will open this year’s festival in East Hampton with “Loving,” the story of the couple whose Supreme Court case did away with laws against interracial marriage in 1967. Directed and written by Jeff Nichols, it stars Joel Edgerton, Ruth Negga, Marton Csokas, Nick Kroll, and Michael Shannon. It will open in theaters on Nov. 4.

The festival also announced its closing night film, “American Pastoral.” Based on Philip Roth’s 1997 novel, it stars Ewan McGregor, Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Connelly, David Strathairn, Rupert Evans, and Valorie Curry. Mr. McGregor also directed. It will open in theaters in November.

The festival will take place from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10. Passes and ticket packages are for sale now on the festival’s website. Individual tickets go on sale Sept. 26.
