A young man whose employer had brought him to Amagansett to work for the season was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday evening and, on Monday, with false personation, for giving a fake name to police officers.

Walter Joaquin Victoriano, 20, a Mexican citizen who first identified himself as DeJesus Victoriano, told East Hampton Town police his real name after his arraignment, while he was waiting to be taken to jail in Riverside if bail were not posted.

A former employee of the Sag Harbor 7-Eleven was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with stealing $1,085 from the store’s cash register. The theft occurred on Aug. 10 and was followed by a month-long investigation.

Sag Harbor police said Bernard T. Cooks of Bridgehampton, 33, had been captured on video taking bills from the register, stuffing them into a plastic bag, and tossing the bag into the garbage. He is said to have done this twice. He later went to the garbage and removed the money, according to police.

East Hampton Town police picked up a taxi driver in Shirley early last Thursday and gave him a ride to Wainscott police headquarters, from which he ultimately was sent to county jail. The police made the trip after learning that Mr. Williams had been arrested by Suffolk County police on an unrelated charge last week.

Sherwood Williams, 58, of Mastic, had been arrested outside Sloppy Tuna, a hot spot at South Emerson Avenue in Montauk in August last year, charged with driving a taxi with too many passengers.

Police were called on Sept. 3 to 51 The Circle by the building’s manager, who said that an ex-tenant had “gone into the basement and was turning off the electrical panel-box switches.” Police checked the switches and found “all to be in working order.” The manager then said he had not actually seen the person on the premises, but that her car was still parked outside. Police contacted the woman, who said she had not gone into the basement, and thought she had permission to park in the driveway.

A student from the island of Jamaica who was working at the Hermitage Resort on Napeague this summer was arrested last Thursday for allegedly stealing the identity of a fellow worker and then attempting to transfer almost $4,000 from his PayPal account.

East Hampton Town detectives said Anthony Martin, 24, had committed a “crime of opportunity” after a colleague in the resort’s office left for the day without shutting down his computer. “At around 4 p.m., Randy was getting off from work, so when he got up from his computer, I sat down,” Mr.

Almost all contested cases in East Hampton Town Justice Court are settled by plea bargain, whether they involve a traffic ticket or a serious criminal charge where jail time is in the offing. In the latter case, the process is a delicate one that can go awry, as has happened twice in recent weeks.

Carlos A. Guaman of Springs, 37, was arrested on May 31 and again on Aug. 17 on misdemeanor charges of drunken driving. His blood-alcohol count was high enough in the August incident, according to East Hampton Town police, that the charge was raised to the “aggravated” level.

An early-morning dispute on Aug. 25 between a cab driver and his boss became heated when the cabby’s passengers joined in. Police arrived and were told that the employer was “bullying” his driver. The driver denied it, the passengers paid the fare and went their way, and cabby and boss both returned to work.

A bicycle valued at $400 was stolen from the Main Beach bike rack on Aug. 23.

Police cited a Melville man Saturday evening for illegal peddling at Main Beach, during the holiday fireworks.

Despite the holiday weekend, local police corralled a relatively small number of drivers to charge with drunken driving. Tyler S. Sizse, 20, of Montauk, was one of them. He was driving north on Essex Street there early Sunday morning, on what he told police was his way home from the Memory Motel, when he failed to negotiate a turn onto South Fairview Avenue. The 2002 Hyundai he was driving wound up with extensive front-end damage, but Mr. Sizse was able to walk away unhurt.

“I had four beers at the Memory,” he told police.

A 19-year-old Springs resident whom an East Hampton Town police officer subdued with a Taser early Monday morning, is facing multiple charges, including the felony assault of a police officer. The officer, Sarah Mortenson, was hospitalized as a result of the incident. Police said she had been released but was still in pain and unable to return to duty.

Police had responded to a report of possible domestic violence a little before 3 a.m. at an Eighth Street house. As they spoke to the occupants, they said it became apparent that one of them, Jamian R.

A Thule bicycle rack was stolen from a Toyota parked on Leeton Road last week. Maureen McCabe-Hamel told police the rack disappeared in the overnight hours of Aug. 19.

The parent of a student attending summer classes at East Hampton High School reported her son’s black mountain bicycle with red lettering stolen on July 22. The boy was in class at the time.

Two East Hampton men and a teenager were arraigned last Thursday in East Hampton Town Justice Court in connection with a June incident at Albert’s Landing beach in Amagansett in which, according to East Hampton Town police, a fourth man was assaulted.



Along with two female passengers, the three, Brian K. Midgett Jr. of Springs, 22, JeRae Hayes of New York City, who grew up in Springs, and Mr. Hayes’s 18-year-old brother, were driving toward the beach parking lot at a little before 1 a.m.

A local tennis pro was arrested in Sag Harbor early Sunday morning on a drunken-driving charge, his third such in a little more than two years and the second in four months.



Sag Harbor police said they stopped Kiril P. Tcherveniachki, 28, on Bay Street after watching him drive erratically across the North Haven bridge. He failed roadside sobriety tests, police said, and “would not properly take the breath prescreen test” or the Intoxilyzer 9000 test at headquarters.

A mailbox was damaged, apparently by vandals, and fell off its post on Egypt Close Road last weekend.

An argument between two roommates turned into a brawl late Saturday, during which windows at their apartment on The Circle were damaged.

The Suffolk County Police Department’s medevac helicopter can land at the former 555 property in Amagansett, which is now owned by East Hampton Town, on a temporary basis.

Supervisor Larry Cantwell said last week that he authorized the use of the Montauk Highway property for the county’s emergency landings.

A New York City woman already charged three times with stalking her ex-husband, his current wife, and their three children, now faces a fourth charge, this time of violating his order of protection.

“I’m an artist and a human rights advocate,” Nirit Resnick, 38, told East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana during her arraignment Sunday morning.

A New York City man already facing a felony charge of drunken driving was arrested in Montauk Harbor Saturday evening after being stopped for speeding in a no-wake zone. Coast Guard officers charged John C. Hulme, 62, with boating while intoxicated and reckless operation of a vessel, both misdemeanors.

Mr. Hulme’s 19-foot-long Stingray, The Expedition, was reportedly clocked at 20 miles per hour through the mouth of the harbor, where the speed limit is 5 m.p.h.

On July 17 at about 3:30 p.m., a resident of Old Stone Highway flagged down an officer on patrol and pointed out some “waste dirt with a putrid smell,” which he said had been illegally dumped onto his driveway, about 20 feet from the road. The estimated four to five yards of dirt was blocking access to three houses that share a common driveway. One of the homeowners called Bistrian’s to remove it.

On the South Fork, where construction is booming, there were several accidents at building sites over the past week.

Five men were injured, four of them airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, in three separate incidents.

On July 30 at about 2:50 p.m., two workers fell three stories into a basement at a construction site at 11 Wills Point Road in Montauk. East Hampton Town Police Capt.

An East Hampton man was charged with drunken driving shortly after midnight Monday after crashing his 2009 Mercedes Benz into a telephone pole in Wainscott, according to East Hampton Town police.

William A. Dreher Jr., 48, told the first officer to arrive that he had lost control of the car “due to wet pavement.” He had been eastbound, just past the Montauk Highway intersection with West Gate Road, before veering across the highway and hitting the pole.

A handful of voters turned out for a special Bridgehampton Fire District referendum Tuesday night, approving the district’s plan to renovate the interior of the firehouse on School Street.

In a 23-to-3 vote, a resolution to approve a 15-year bond at a maximum of $750,000 to renovate the kitchen and offices, add women’s bathrooms, renovate the recreation area in the basement, and make other repairs was passed.

No plans have been announced yet for the former Pulver Gas building on Main Street, which the district purchased in 2011 for $3.9 million.

A man who told East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky that “I’m not homeless. I live outside,” has spent the last few days in the county jail, charged by East Hampton Village police with trespassing.

Joseph Volper, 58, approached an officer early Friday morning, saying he thought he had left his belt and a blue blanket in a house near Hook Mill. He led the officer to the house, saying he had entered it “through a front side door that was partially open,” the officer reported, and, once inside, had “played his portable stereo” and fallen asleep on a couch.

Leaders of the Amagansett Fire Department have to find a new place for the Suffolk County police helicopter to land in emergencies when patients need to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The medevac has been landing in a field behind the firehouse, between Main Street and the Long Island Rail Road tracks, but the chief said he was recently informed that pilots had raised concerns about the safety of the landing zone.

An employee of the Stephen Talkhouse, Brendon Gabbard, was “escorting” two men out of the bar on July 26 when, police reported, a third man punched him on the back of the head, ran out of the building, headed west on Main Street, and jumped into a black sedan, driving away.

Police stopped a yellow 2013 Hyundai sports car on Pantigo Road last Thursday morning after receiving a report that the driver had been reckless on Main Street.

The annual Barcelona Point boat party on Sunday was either very poorly attended or rescheduled for another weekend.

The watery revelry has been held on the first Sunday in August for several years, but only about 30 craft were in the waters of Northwest Harbor on Sunday.

A Woodside man driving a company van to the farmers market in Springs in order to sell pickles was charged Saturday morning with 10 misdemeanors, mostly relating to possession of drugs.

East Hampton Town police said Peter Chau was pulled over on North Main Street, East Hampton, because his rear license plate was “crooked.” The officer reportedly found that Mr. Chau’s license had been suspended three times for failure to pay a fine in Queens, which led initially to his arrest.

­On July 21, two bicycles were stolen from a rack on a back porch at a house on Cliff Road. Howard Schneider described them as a red 26-inch women’s Schwinn Streamliner, which had been purchased the day before, and an older maroon 26-inch women’s mountain bike with a large seat. The new bike, which had cost $650, had an Amagansett Beach Company sticker on the base of the frame.



Another bicycle was stolen from a Mako Lane house on July 22 or 23.

A 41-year-old East Islip man who allegedly fled the scene of an accident late Saturday night was arrested soon after when his Jeep engine quit.

A 16-year-old Chinese boarding student at the Ross School in East Hampton had her credit card account hacked last month by someone operating in the Washington, D.C., area. The girl’s mother called her from China to say her Visa bill showed four transactions totaling over $2,000, all on the same day and at the same grocery store in Rockville, Md. After the card was canceled, the thief attempted to use it again, this time in Washington.

A late-night taxi ride from Montauk’s Memory Motel to Lee Court in the hamlet and then to Gilbert Road ended in a violent beating for one of the riders, who objected to being charged $50 for the trip.



East Hampton Town police Capt. Chris Anderson said Tuesday that the passenger, Kempton John Coady, 27, of upstate Stamford, N.Y., suffered a black eye and a split lip. Police, who are continuing to investigate the incident, have not released the name of the cab company.
