Several Hurt in Weekend Accidents

Thu, 10/15/2026 - 11:06

An e-bike rider was hit by a car and injured just after midnight Sunday on Main Street in Amagansett.

According to town police, Yunjian Huang, 56, of College Point, struck Eduardo Alberto Galdamez Quijada, 23, of East Hampton, as he pulled out of his parking spot. Mr. Huang told police he hadn’t seen Mr. Galdamez Quijada, who was headed west.

Reports indicate that the bicyclist suffered bruising to his arm. He was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital’s East Hampton emergency complex.

Earlier Sunday night, a family of three were in a car accident on Napeague Meadow Road that also involved injuries.

Michael P. Byrne, 63, of North Kingstown, R.I., told police he was on that road, approaching the stop sign at Montauk Highway, when a car driven by Laura C. Gunderson, 31, of Amagansett, rounded the corner from the highway and struck his car head-on.

Carol Byrne, 58, who was sitting in the passenger seat, complained of shoulder pain, and their son, Michael P. Byrne Jr., 27, who was seated in the back, complained of leg pain. His father was bleeding from a head injury, police said. All three were taken to the Pantigo Road emergency room.

Ms. Gunderson complained of chest pain but was not taken to the hospital. Both cars sustained front-end damage and were towed from the scene.

In the week’s third accident involving injuries, two women were hurt on Saturday afternoon when their car was struck by a pickup truck on Stephen Hand’s Path.

According to the police report, the truck driver, Jimmy Ortega-Crespo, 32, was turning left from Stephen Hand’s onto Old Northwest Road when he collided with Erin McCormick, 30, who was northbound on Stephen Hand’s.

Ms. McCormick complained of pain in her pelvis. Her passenger, Margaret Scott McLeod, 30, who was in the back seat, had facial injuries. Both were taken to Stony Brook’s emergency complex here.

A front-seat passenger in Ms. McCormick’s was unhurt in the accident. Mr. Ortega-Crespo was not injured either, nor were his two passengers.
