A Brooklyn man was charged with a felony on Saturday after an altercation with a traffic control officer.
Sag Harbor Village police arrested Yosef Follman, 33, around 5:30 p.m. on Main Street after receiving a report that his car had “almost struck” the young T.C.O., who told police she’d approached the driver after seeing him head north in the southbound lane and then park the car against the flow of traffic.
She instructed him to turn the car around, she said. He refused and walked away, but returned and watched over her shoulder as she started to collect vehicle information for a parking summons. He then got back into the car, she told police, started the engine, “aggressively pulled out” from the space, and “abruptly veered” toward her. She would have been struck, she said, had she not jumped out of the way.
Mr. Follman was charged with attempted assault in the second degree, a felony, and menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and taken to village police headquarters for processing. He is scheduled to appear in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on Sept. 12.
Two weeks earlier, an East Hampton man accused of causing about $2,000 worth of damage at a residence in Northwest was charged with criminal mischief, a felony, and criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.
Austin A. Bennett, 34, reportedly entered the private, fenced-in back yard of an Ely Brook Road property just after midnight on Aug. 23 and allegedly broke a glass window, a screen door, and outdoor glass candle holders. He was taken into town police custody about an hour later, and appeared before East Hampton Town Justice David Filer later that morning. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court on Sept. 24.
