Amagansett

Two deer, stuck in a fence on Marine Boulevard on the morning of May 5, were freed by police without issue.

A small fire on Sunday evening, in a Montauk Highway house near the Cranberry Hole Road bridge, was determined by firefighters to have started when the homeowner turned on the air-conditioning unit for the first time this year.

East Hampton

A woman walking near Goodfriend Drive on the afternoon of May 5 reported hearing a loud boom, followed by a “bright flash.” Police found there was no power from Goodfriend Drive all the way to South Breeze Drive, and PSEG confirmed an “active outage,” with possible restoration around 4 a.m. the next day.

That same afternoon, firefighters were summoned to extinguish flames in a dryer on Grape Arbor Lane, which they did in short order.

East Hampton Village

A Newtown Lane woman called about a large tree branch hanging precariously over her lawn and sidewalk on the evening of May 6, and police called in the Highway Department to remove it.

An Uber driver waved down an officer who was patrolling Main Street early Sunday morning to say that a drunken passenger was refusing to get out of his car. The officer got the man out, and family members arrived to take him back to their hotel.

Sag Harbor

A driver was sitting in traffic right in front of the Brick Kiln Road firehouse on May 6 when his car was rear-ended by a Jeep Wrangler. When he pulled into the firehouse to check for damage, the Jeep drove off, he told police. “No substantial damage” was reported.

A caller reported a loud fire alarm going off in the vicinity of Madison Street on the evening of May 6. Police found it, still ringing, inside a trash bag, and removed the battery. Rain had likely entered it and set it off, they reported.

A woman told police on Friday afternoon that her cat was stuck in a tree and would not come down, but that she’d called an arborist friend who was on the way to help.

Springs

A driver who’d damaged two mailboxes at the corner of Fleming Street and Fort Pond Boulevard on May 7 later called both homeowners, apologized, and offered to pay for the damage.

Wainscott

A fuel truck was reported engulfed in flames last Thursday afternoon on Daniel’s Hole Road, and its driver sustained minor scratches to his arm while jumping down to safety. East Hampton firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Convicted Man Given Grace

Darius Petty, who last year was accused of kidnapping and robbing three young men at gunpoint in the parking lot of the East Hampton Senior Center, and was sentenced in June to three years in prison, was released from custody in July for a monthlong “grace period” before his incarceration. On Tuesday, Suffolk Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei agreed to extend the time for an additional month.
