Harassment With Your Mussels?

Jenny Doud, manager at Sag Harbor’s popular Corner Bar, told Sag Village police last Thursday morning that a patron who had become ill after eating a dish of mussels was harassing the restaurant.

After first hearing about it from the man, the Corner Bar disposed of the rest of the mussels it had in stock, contacted the purveyor, Braun Seafood in Cutchogue, and also contacted the Suffolk County Health Department. The restaurant also reimbursed the patron, and apologized, and presented him with a $20 gift certificate for a future meal.

According to police, however, after accepting his money back and the gift certificate, the man then made repeated phone calls to the restaurant, saying he wanted an additional $550 for lost wages or he would call the media — which, police said, led to the claim of harassment.

In the end, no charges were filed by anyone. Police declined to release the diner’s name, but did say that he’d been advised to refrain from further contact with the restaurant.
