Felony D.W.I. Is Charged

Thu, 03/10/2022 - 10:33

East Hampton Town police were tipped off about a possible drunken driver last Thursday evening. At about 6:45, they were able to locate Francisco X. Gomez-Berrezueta, 38, of East Hampton, driving east on Oakview Highway in East Hampton at an excessively low speed.

According to the police report, the driver turned onto Oak Square without signaling, and was pulled over. The officer noted a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and found three opened and three unopened bottles of Corona in plain view.

Mr. Gomez-Berrezueta, who police said has two prior convictions on his record for driving while intoxicated, both in 2020, was charged with felony D.W.I. He was held overnight for a Friday morning appearance in Town Justice Court, where he was released on his own recognizance. He was due back in court yesterday.
