Fri, 01/28/2022 - 15:14

It took less than two days for police to make an arrest in connection with an armed robbery that took place at Montoya Communications in East Hampton on Wednesday around 5 p.m.

Shane Filasky of East Hampton, 46, was arrested just before 4 a.m. on Friday, town police said in a press release. He is accused of displaying what appeared to be a weapon to force a clerk to hand over $30,800 in cash. The store, on Springs-Fireplace Road, sells mobile phones and offers money transfer services.

Suffolk County police conducted the initial investigation, taking Mr. Filasky into custody Friday morning and charging him with three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors. He was then released to the custody of East Hampton Town detectives, who charged him with one count of second-degree robbery, a felony. His arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court was to take place Friday.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call town police at 631-537-7575. Calls will be kept confidential.
