Annual fire district elections, in which voters select commissioners to oversee finances, personnel, and other administrative aspects of volunteer fire department services, will take place Tuesday in Bridgehampton, Montauk, Amagansett, and Springs.

The race for one full, five-year commissioner term in Montauk is contested. The candidates are Jim Wright, an incumbent commissioner seeking re-election, and Donna Hitscherich, a state-certified paramedic. There is also a two-year term on the ballot, with Tom Dess, who was appointed to fill the seat temporarily after the resignation of Billy Pitts, running unopposed. Voting hours are from 2 to 9 p.m. at the firehouse on Flamingo Avenue.

In Bridgehampton, Jeff White, a former department chief and longtime active member, is seeking a commissioner’s seat for the first time. He is the only candidate. Jay McCaffrey, a sitting commissioner, is not seeking re-election. Voting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Fire House on School Street.

The Amagansett Fire District race is also uncontested, with William (Billy) Vorpahl Jr. running to retain his seat on the board. Voting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. at the firehouse.

Information on the Springs vote was not available from the fire district office as of press time yesterday.
