Blaming It on the Weather

Thu, 12/29/2022 - 10:32

The wild weather that arrived in town late Friday afternoon prompted multiple road hazard calls to police. The blast of artic air, which brought blustery winds that downed numerous trees, was also blamed for one weather-driven accident.

Georgia Bogetti of East Hampton, 23, was driving a 2014 Jeep Suburban in Montauk Friday at around 6:30 p.m. when, she told East Hampton Town police, she “lost control of the wheel due to the weather conditions” while making a right turn from West Lake Drive onto Flamingo Avenue. The car, registered to Stephanie Bogetti of Brielle, N.J., struck a County Road 49 sign at the intersection and sustained damage.

Taken together, the East Hampton town and village police blotters recorded about a dozen traffic hazards — trees in the road, mostly —  starting late Friday afternoon and continuing into the early evening. In the village, they included a large tree blocking the road at Toilsome and Woods Lanes and a downed tree on Fithian Lane. Town police responded to reports of a fallen tree completely blocking Harbor View Lane in front of a house at number 67, and another blocking Wainscott Northwest Road.
