Drugs and a 9-Millimeter in Amagansett

Fri, 07/16/2021 - 14:35

After a search warrant led to the discovery of large quantities of mushrooms, the drug Ecstasy, and a stolen 9-millimeter handgun in an apartment in the Gansett Meadow complex in Amagansett, a resident of that hamlet was arrested on Thursday, according to East Hampton Town police, who executed the warrant together with the Suffolk County district attorney's East End Drug Task Force.

Ryan Aldrich, 29, was charged with four felonies, three of them involving criminal possession of a controlled substance. The other was for criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Mr. Aldrich was also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.

Deanna Digioia, 28, of East Patchogue led police to the apartment after officers had seen her leaving. They stopped her nearby on Montauk Highway in Amagansett. Police said a significant amount of mushrooms (psilocybin) was found in the car she was driving. She was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a felony.

Both Mr. Aldrich and Ms. Digioia were taken into custody and arraigned Friday morning, after which they were held without bail. Ms. Digioia will be back in court on Tuesday. A date for Mr. Aldrich's return to court was not yet available.

The investigation is continuing. Police have asked that anyone with information call the detective division at 631-537-6989.
