Accident Snarls Afternoon Traffic in Amagansett

An accident has closed the westbound traffic lane in Amagansett.

Update, 3:20 p.m.: Montauk Highway in Amagansett has been reopened, according to the East Hampton Town Police Department.

Originally, 2:20 p.m.: East Hampton Town Police have closed the westbound lane of Montauk Highway in Amagansett following a two-car crash on Thursday afternoon.

Heavy traffic delays in both directions have been observed in the vicinity of the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. just west of the Amagansett School.

Police could not provide additional details, as first responders were still on the scene as of 2:20 p.m. Thursday. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Legal Aid Declines Her Case

Nicoly Ribeiro De Souza, the 23-year-old accused of driving under the influence into the Montauk Artists Association Art Show early on the morning of June 29 and causing $100,000 worth of damage, was ordered Wednesday by East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky to retain private counsel before her next appearance in Justice Court.
