Could Not Wait for Police

Thu, 03/04/2021 - 08:50

Last Thursday on Route 114, East Hampton Town police flagged down a 2018 Jeep involved minutes before in a minor hit-and-run accident near Hampton Street in Sag Harbor. The man whose car was hit, Benjamin Lehmann of Sag Harbor, was driving south on Harrison Street when it happened, and pulled over to call police. The other driver, Marlon Rodriguez-Camacho of East Hampton, did not stop, he told them. Mr. Lehmann said he followed him and asked him to stop, but Mr. Rodriguez-Camacho explained that "he had to get home to prepare an invoice for a client and could not stay and wait for police."

The East Hampton officers held Mr. Rodriguez-Camacho until Sag Harbor police arrived. According to their report, the East Hampton man said "he was upset that vehicle 2 was going too slow" and used his high beams to signal Mr. Lehmann to speed up. Instead, he slowed down, and his 2005 Dodge was rear-ended.

Neither driver was hurt. Sag police ticketed Mr. Rodriguez-Camacho for leaving the scene of an accident and following the car ahead too closely.

Elsewhere on the roads, there were icy trouble spots last week on Newtown Lane near King Street in East Hampton Village and on Industrial Road in Wainscott. Deer were active in Montauk last Thursday evening on Flamingo Avenue by North Farragut Road, and in Amagansett on Friday afternoon on Bluff Road near Dune Crest Way. No injuries were reported, either to man or beast.
