East Hampton Village
After two seal-related calls last week, two more calls on Friday afternoon brought officers to Georgica Beach in search of a stranded seal pup that people were reported to be "harassing." According to one caller, the seal was injured and people were kicking sand at it. The Marine Rescue Center in Riverhead picked up the seal before police arrived.
The manager of Shan, a clothing and swimwear store on Main Street, called police twice on Saturday afternoon, first to report a man in jeans and a sweatshirt who stood inside by the front door for a long time before leaving, and again after another man walked in and asked if they sold women's handbags. She told him they did not, and he left.
Montauk
John Lotito, the owner of Montauk Plumbing and Heating on Edgemere Street, arrived at work at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 to find an exterior light fixture missing from the northeast side of the building and five lightbulbs missing from other fixtures. The redacted report said that a suspect was documented "heading toward the Montauk train station," but that Mr. Lotito did not wish to press charges at this time.
A woman staying at Montauk Manor on a business trip reported sexual assault early Saturday morning. After drinks and dinner at the Hilltop restaurant, she told police, she and her co-workers went back to the room they were sharing, where they played card games and continued to drink. The woman and her boss began arguing; the fight escalated quickly, and she told police "she was being ganged-up on by her co-workers." She packed up, left the room, and called her father to say she was coming home. A male colleague stopped her in the lobby, she told police, "asking her if she was okay," and she handed him her phone. The man "proceeded to talk to her dad," according to the report, and "both parties agreed that she will stay in the boys' " room "to avoid more arguing." The woman said she remembered nothing more after giving the man her phone, until she woke up "on the couch of [his] room with her pants off and him sitting next to her." She grabbed her bag and went to the lobby to tell the manager, who phoned police. She refused several times to press charges, police said, saying "she just wanted to go home."
Sag Harbor
On the morning of Jan. 19 at Hampton and Hamilton Streets, officers interviewed a man who appeared to be hitchhiking. His car had broken down, he said, and the cuts and abrasions on his face "happened at work on a prior date." He was provided with a county bus schedule.
A woman wanted police documentation of a suspicious phone call she received on Jan. 20, in which an unknown man told her "she would be arrested by federal officers because a body was found in her vehicle in Texas." The woman told police "she got emotional." The caller said he would transfer her to his supervisor and then hung up.
After large tree limbs were reported in the roadway on Madison Street Friday, a homeowner explained that a tree company was working on his property, and the workers had left for lunch. Officers put traffic cones around the spot.
A Noyac Road homeowner found "divorce documents from Mexico" on her property Saturday afternoon and turned them over to police.
Someone called on Sunday afternoon to say a child had been left in a parked car on Main Street for 20 minutes. Officers interviewed a woman who said she'd left the car for only five minutes to pop in and out of the laundromat.
Someone whom she knows only as "Catherine" has been leaving her harassing messages, such as "You'll regret thisā" a Main Street resident told police on Sunday evening. The caller had an issue with her and her father, she said.
A telephone pole went down that same night across Jermain Avenue, and though the caller heard a noise and saw a car drive away, police did not find debris or a damaged vehicle in the area. PSEG responded and reported that high winds were likely responsible.
Springs
A juvenile home alone on Harbor Boulevard told police Friday afternoon that he was in his bedroom when he heard the front door open, and when he walked out of the room, he heard it close. He saw out the window "four youths riding their bikes west on Harbor Boulevard in a hurried manner." He was able to take a picture for police, who did not find anyone in the area.
