At least four people were injured at an engagement party on Saturday night in Bridgehampton following an explosion involving a fire pit, according to the Southampton Town Police Department.

Shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded to a house on Kellis Way and found “multiple people with severe burns,” police said in a press release. The Suffolk County Aviation Unit airlifted two adults, a man and a woman, to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition. Two other women were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department and Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Company responded to the 911 call. Southampton Town detectives and fire marshals are investigating the cause of the explosion, which an eyewitness said may have involved an accelerant that was poured onto the flame. The witness told The Star the gathering was an engagement party.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
