Wed, 10/28/2020 - 14:56

An Oct. 18 accident at the Clam Bar on Napeague ended in charges of drunken driving for a New York City man, Donato Tenore, 60.

According to East Hampton Town police, Mr. Tenore's 1995 Mercedes ran off Route 27 and struck a 2016 Honda, parked in the restaurant's lot, at 2:35 p.m. When police interviewed him, the officer noticed signs of intoxication such as slurred speech, alcoholic breath, and glassy, bloodshot eyes. Mr. Tenore, who reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests, was charged with misdemeanor D.W.I., a first offense, as well as aggravated D.W.I.; his blood-alcohol test was said to have produced a reading of over .18, more than twice the legal limit. He was held for an  appearance in East Hampton Town Justice Court the next morning and is due back there on Nov. 19.

Max W. Sonner, 26, of Garden City "split a bottle of wine" with someone else on the evening of Oct. 21 before driving away. He was headed east on Main Street in East Hampton when a village officer spotted him failing to signal while making "four unsafe lane changes." The officer stopped his 2018 Subaru at about 10:20 p.m. on Pantigo Road. Mr. Sonner showed signs of intoxication, according to the report, and told the officer about the wine when asked. He faces two misdemeanor D.W.I. charges and is to appear in Justice Court on Dec. 10.
