Cyclist in Shock After Collision

Thu, 10/01/2020 - 09:13

A single accident on the roads was reported last week, involving a car and a bicycle.

On Sunday afternoon, Mark Friedberg, 57, of Brooklyn, driving a 2019 Audi on Stephen Hand's Path toward Route 114 in East Hampton, attempted to pass the cyclist, Jonas Hagen of Sag Harbor, 44, but due to oncoming traffic was unable to avoid him. Mr. Friedberg told police that the cyclist had "moved into the side of his vehicle." Ann Davison, a witness who was driving behind Mr. Friedberg's car, also said she had seen the bicycle move toward the car and hit it, "possily due to uneven roadway shoulder," according to a police report.

Mr. Hagen, who was in shock when police arrived and complained of pain throughout his body, remembered only being struck and ending up on the ground. He was taken to Southampton Hospital by an East Hampton ambulance.
