Nanny Arrested

A Northport nanny is facing felony drunken-driving charges following her arrest on the afternoon of June 3. Town police said Inese Stankiewicz, 55, was backing up a 2014 Ford in the public parking lot east of South Edgemere Street in Montauk shortly after 1 p.m. when she hit a parked car, then drove away. Witnesses described the Ford, which was pulled over a few minutes later on Second House Road.

Back at police headquarters, Ms. Stan­kiewicz, who was additionally charg­ed with leaving the scene of an accident, consented to take the breath test, which police said produced a reading of .24. Normally the D.W.I. charge is a misdemeanor, but, as Justice Rana noted the next morning at her arraignment, Ms. Stankewicz has two prior D.W.I. convictions, the last one, in 2010, at the felony level. That makes the new charge a felony as well.

Bail was set for the visibly shaken Ms. Stankiewicz at $10,000, which was posted.

Police stopped a 2014 Chevrolet on Jenny’s Path in East Hampton near Accabonac Road at 1:20 a.m. on June 4, saying its driver, Nebyou Guetaneh of New York City, 35, was speeding. He reportedly failed roadside sobriety tests and later, at headquarters, refused to take the breath test. He was released later that morning after posting $500 bail.

Emily A. Vallar, 28, of East Meadow was arrested early last Thursday morning after being pulled over on Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett for swerving across lane lines, according to the police. She allegedly failed sobriety tests and was taken to headquarters, where, police said, her alcohol level was tested at .18, triggering a charge of aggravated D.W.I.

Gordon Ryan, her attorney, argued in court that Ms. Vallar had a longstanding connection to East Hampton, having worked here during the summer months, and therefore should be released without bail. East Hampton Justice Steven Tekulsky agreed, and sent the woman on her way with a future date in court.

A Wainscott man, Luis A. Bermeo, 26, was arrested Saturday night on D.W.I. charges. His blood-alcohol level was reported to be .16. Bail was set at $500, which was posted.
