Alison R. Bernstein, a higher education pioneer who had been a vice president for knowledge, creativity, and freedom at the Ford Foundation, died at home in East Hampton last Thursday, in the company of her dog as well as friends, her partner, and her daughters.

Barbara Ann Miller, who had run Barbara Miller Studios, a drapery and slipcover business in East Hampton, died last Thursday at Stony Brook University Hospital after a stroke, her family said.

Dr. Jerome L. Schulman, a professor emeritus at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and a pioneering virologist in influenza research, died at his New York City home last Thursday at the age of 89.

Renata Dobryn, a potter and freelance carpenter who was born in Argentina and lived in Montauk for the last 30 years, died on June 13 at Stony Brook University Hospital following complications from heart surgery.

Silvia Tennenbaum, a novelist, occasional journalist, active member of the East Hampton Democratic Party, and a fixture of The Star’s letters pages who lived in Springs for many years, died on June 27 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania after a brief illness.

A graveside memorial service for Stephen A. Steele Sr., an East Hampton native who died on March 30 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va., will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s cemetery on Cedar Street in East Hampton.

Ellen G. Fine, who after a successful career at Bloomingdale’s developed nine home furnishings and women’s clothing stores called Fine Design, one of which was on Newtown Lane in East Hampton, died unexpectedly of an aortic dissection on June 7 at her Manhattan office.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow for Alton Terry Gholson, who died on May 31 at the age of 61 in Las Vegas, where he had lived for the past 13 years.

Marie Judith Fenley Esposito of Montauk, who was introduced to the hamlet as a teenager in 1955 when her grandfather built a house on East Lake Drive, died on June 21.

Raymond John Warme of Montauk, a retired construction contractor, died at Stony Brook Hospital on June 26 of complications following surgery.

Susan W. Duke, who grew up in Laredo, Tex., and moved north with her husband to live in Noyac and Sag Harbor for 31 years, died Monday at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quogue.

A wake for Marie Fenley Esposito, 76, of Montauk will be held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be said on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Montauk. Mrs. Esposito died on Tuesday at the St. James Rehabilitation Center. A full obituary will appear in a future issue.

A celebration of the life of Robert L. Peters, a 1969 East Hampton High School graduate who died on Oct. 18 at the age of 64, will be held on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Robbie and Kori Peters’s house at 4 West Way in East Hampton. All will be welcomed and have been invited to share memories of Mr. Peters at the gathering.

Loretta Lynch, a former custodial worker at East Hampton High School whose care extended to all of the students she came in contact with, many of whom called her “Ma,” died on June 6 at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Fla.

Ronald Budd Hildreth, a retired international patent lawyer and law school lecturer, died at home in Montauk on Tuesday. He was 82 and had a stroke, his family said.

Mr. Hildreth was in the 11th generation of Southampton Hildreths. He was born on June 24, 1933, in Bay Shore to Joshua Budd Hildreth and the former Jane Haag and grew up in Blue Point.

Virginia Natalie Veronica Stier, a Montauk resident who was active in the community and known for her hospitality, died on Sunday, at Southampton Hospital.

Chester Laird Uncapher and his wife earned dual pilot’s licenses in 1975, attending adult-education classes together in the evenings.

Lester Forbell Jr., who was called Zeke by family and friends, died at home on Queens Lane in East Hampton on June 7.

Stephen Soreff, a sculptor who had taught design for many years at C.W. Post College of Long Island University, died of lung cancer on April 23 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Alexander Mellon Laughlin Jr., a summer resident of East Hampton who had a career in private equity after working in the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, died of a heart attack on June 1 while playing in a United States Senior Golf Association tournament at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton.

A memorial service for Fritz Henry Riege, a retired coast guardsman and Montauk resident who died on June 27, 2015, in Anderson, S.C., will be held at the Montauk Community Church on Saturday.

Lester Forbell, a mechanic for the East Hampton Town Highway Department who was known to friends and family as Zeke, died at home on Tuesday.

Sonya Scofield, the nurse at the Montauk School for over 30 years, died on May 25 in Orlando, Fla.

Stephan Edward Deal, a former merchant mariner who lived for 27 years in Montauk, where he worked most recently for Prado Brothers Plumbing and Heating, a division of Marshall & Sons, died at Stony Brook University Hospital on May 20.

Alton Terry Gholson, who grew up in Bridgehampton and lived in Las Vegas for the past 13 years, died at Centennial Hills Hospital in Las Vegas on May 31.

Virginia Archer, a longtime Montauk resident and member of the Montauk Community Church choir, died at Southampton Hospital on May 31.

A service for Virginia Archer of Montauk, who was known as Bonnie, will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Montauk Community Church.

John Tilley, a longtime member of the Springs Fire Department and the East Hampton Town Marine Patrol, died at home on May 1 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., under hospice care.

Marie Antoinette Kiembock, a lifelong resident of East Hampton whose plentiful breads and cookies were enjoyed by family and friends, died of cancer on May 19 at her eldest son’s home in Homosassa, Fla., surrounded by family.

Pearlina Alberta Moseley, known to many as Sister Mama, died on May 21 at home in Springs. She was 79.
