Lynn V. Marrapodi, a fashion professional turned artist, died on May 3 of complications following open heart surgery at N.Y.U. Langone Hospital in Manhattan. A former resident of East Hampton and Amagansett, she was 79.
Ms. Marrapodi had a career as a creative director, producer, freelance fashion stylist, and teacher at the Fashion Institute of Technology, but “in 1989, while on a business trip in Paris, I saw a Gauguin retrospective that inspired me to change my life,” she wrote in a statement published on Artsy.net. “I retired from the advertising world and began painting full time.”
Born in Brooklyn on July 8, 1946, to Dominick Martini and the former Virginia Carmosino, she grew up in that borough. After graduating from the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the Parsons School of Design.
She and Vincent Marrapodi were married in June 1968. They split their time between New York and the South Fork for many years, first at a house in East Hampton and later on Atlantic Avenue in Amagansett. They divorced in 1986, but remained friends.
Ms. Marrapodi was cremated. Her ashes are to be interred at Green River Cemetery in Springs. A memorial will be held at a future date.
