News has been received of the death of Victoria Montague Helmuth on Nov. 7 in Minnesota. She was 78.

Known as Vickie, she was born in East Hampton on April 26, 1945, to John (Jack) Lockman Helmuth Sr. and the former Adele Walker. She graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., with a degree in history, and worked in Chicago and California before settling in St. Louis Park, Minn., where she worked for Equitable Life, Minnegasco, the Federal Reserve, and Target. She enjoyed Minneapolis's cultural scene and regularly attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop. 

A brother, John Lockman Helmuth Jr., died before her.
