Jan. 15, 1924 - Nov. 23, 2022

Word has been received of the death of Elaine Greene Weisburg, who had a long career in the magazine industry, at home in San Diego on Nov. 23. Ms. Weisburg, formerly of Sag Harbor and Manhattan, had been ill for a brief time. She was 98.

Her publishing career spanned 60 years and included senior editorial and staff positions at House & Garden, House Beautiful, and other publications. She also wrote and edited memoirs, anthologies, and books on home decorating. When she wasn’t writing or editing, she was painting, wallpapering, and styling her residences, her family said.

Born in Brooklyn on Jan. 15, 1924, to Harry Greene and the former Bessie Katz, she grew up in Neponsit and Forest Hills, Queens, graduating from Far Rockaway High School and, in 1945, from Queens College with a degree in French.

She and Lawrence Weisburg were married in February of 1947. Soon after, they began visiting Sag Harbor and bought a house on the Upper Cove in 1958. They lived in Rome for a time in the early 1960s while Mr. Weisburg was supervising the translation and publication of Italian art books. Mr. Weisburg died in 2000, and Ms. Weisburg moved to San Diego in 2018.

The couple’s two sons, Henry Weisburg of Sagaponack and William Weisburg of San Diego, survive. Ms. Weisburg also leaves four granddaughters, Jessica Weisburg, Emily Weisburg, Madeline Weisburg, and Marina Weisburg, a great-grandson, Ethan, and a sister, Doris Zuckman of New England.

Ms. Weisburg was cremated. Rabbi Josh Franklin of the Jewish Center of the Hamptons will officiate at a graveside service on April 30 at 2 p.m. at the Independent Jewish Cemetery in Sag Harbor. Her family has suggested memorial donations to the Peconic Land Trust, online at peconiclandtrust.org.
