The 911 system for East Hampton Town and Village is operational despite the global outage of Microsoft-based technology and systems that impacted hospitals and emergency services in other regions Friday morning and also grounded planes and disrupted banking and broadcasting.

Residents of the East Hampton Village Manufactured Home Community on Oakview Highway say they are frustrated at the frequency and duration of recurring power outages over the last several years, and are taking action to encourage the community's management company to finally solve the problems.

In a little over a year, East Hampton Town's Zoning Code Amendment Working Group has walked a tightrope between business interests, builders, real estate people, and others who fear over-restrictive zoning, and those who want the code strengthened to preserve what they say is a town that is quickly losing, or has already lost, its character. In the process of deciding what to change, compromise has begun to emerge.
