Defensive Driving Class Thursday in Montauk

As of earlier Tuesday, there was still space in a defensive driving course at the Montauk Library taking place on Thursday from 10:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Upon completion of the class, participants may save up to 10 percent on auto insurance. The cost is $40 by check payable to Empire Safety Council. Participants must take their driver's license and a pen, and may also take lunch or a snack. Registration is required by calling 631-668-3377.

Call ‘Flesh Eating’ Alarmist

The Vibrio vulnificus “flesh eating” bacterium “is not unusual in warm saltwater or brackish environments and does not necessarily indicate pollution or a widespread public health emergency,” the Southampton Town Trustees said in an advisory issued following a social media post that went viral.
