Art and Empowerment at Borghi

Sat, 02/03/2024 - 08:11
Syn Martinez's inkjet on canvas "Three the Hard Way" (2023) can be seen at Mark Borghi Gallery.

Mark Borghi Gallery in Sag Harbor will open "The Anti-Black History, Black History Event," an exhibition of paintings by the artist and entrepreneur Syn Martinez, with a reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The former owner and coach of CrossFit Harlem, Mr. Martinez is the C.E.O. of AfroBrutality Sports, which works with community organizations and law enforcement agencies to use fitness as a way to empower others to realize their full potential. AfroBrutality is also a sportswear brand, with products featuring his artwork.

The gallery calls him "a force of nature" whose entrepreneurial savvy is "brought to life on vibrant canvases. He doesn't just paint faces, he paints possibilities. Syn's art reveals the hidden potential within each of us."

The exhibition will run through Feb. 28.
