A Chance to Meet the East Hampton Democrats

Thu, 06/01/2023 - 09:39

The East Hampton Town Democratic Committee will launch its 2023 campaign next Thursday with an event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clubhouse in Wainscott.

Those attending will be able to meet the Democratic slate in this fall’s elections. They are Deputy Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, the candidate for supervisor; Councilman David Lys, who is seeking re-election, and Tom Flight, a first-time candidate for town board. Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc and Councilwoman Sylvia Overby announced earlier this year that they would not seek re-election.

The nine town trustee candidates are Francis Bock, Bill Taylor, Jim Grimes, John Aldred, Tim Garneau, Ben Dollinger, and David Cataletto, who are incumbents, and two first-time candidates, Celia Josephson and Patrice Dalton. Susan McGraw-Keber and Mike Martinsen, incumbent Democrats, are not seeking re-election. Mr. Grimes is also endorsed by the East Hampton Town Republican Committee.

David Filer is the Democratic Committee’s candidate for town justice. The committee has also endorsed Stephen Lynch, the incumbent highway superintendent, and the incumbent assessors, Jeanne Nielsen and Jill Massa.

“Over the next five months, voters will have an opportunity to learn more about the vision and the accomplishments of our Democratic slate of candidates,” Ms. Burke-Gonzalez said in a statement. “A slate of caring, qualified, and thoughtful leaders. A slate that will govern with courage, empathy, and a great deal of common sense.”

Admission is free, and all ages have been invited. There will be a cash bar and free appetizers. Conga Cartel, a Latin fusion band, will perform acoustic music.

Election Day is Nov. 7.
