Springs Notebook: Diversity Club Builds Connections

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 05:28

Preschoolers constructed buildings that reached for the sky! No, they didn’t build actual skyscrapers. Instead they used building blocks, Magnatiles, and foam blocks to recreate some famous buildings, which were inches and sometimes feet off the ground.

The Springs School Diversity Club took a small field trip to the prekindergarten building across the campus, where members split off into three groups with three different preschool teachers. The preschoolers had just started their construction unit, and they were learning about buildings like the Eiffel Tower.

The kids were then given pictures of buildings to choose from, and the small groups tried to recreate what they were seeing in the photos. The Diversity Club helped bring the images in the photos to life with classroom and play materials.

Meghan Lydon’s class drew pictures of their own houses, with a little help from the Diversity Club, of course. Kids also created leprechaun traps for St. Patrick’s Day.

“I think the visit to pre-K was a success,” said Victoria Firemark, the club’s coordinator. “I feel like the older students, who were able to help with the leprechaun traps, were excited to be able to revisit their own childhoods.”

The field trip brought happiness to everyone involved. The younger students had an amazing time with their older peers, and the older students took a stroll down memory lane.
