Shapes in Art

"Shape and design" is the theme of the next Parrish Art Museum family workshop. Madolin Archer will lead the free, online program, which is on Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. More information is online at parrishart.org.

Nature Up Close

This week, the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center is offering multiple ways to enjoy nature.

Tomorrow at 7 p.m., don your pajamas and pop some popcorn to watch online videos about Long Island wildlife via YouTube. This week's theme is bird migration. More details are online at sofo.org.

On Saturday at 8 a.m., adults and children ages 8 and up can take a walk through the Elizabeth Morton National Wildlife Refuge in Noyac with John Turner, an educator, birder, author, and SoFo board member. The cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children, free for SoFo members. Participants will be on the lookout for chickadees, which eat unsalted sunflower seeds directly from visitors' hands.

Next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. is the first full-moon hike of 2021 at Vineyard Field behind the museum in Bridgehampton. This free event is co-hosted by Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt. Advance registration is required for all events, as space will be limited due to Covid-19.

Baby and Me

The Children's Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton has Baby and Me sessions in person on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., meant for parents and babies ages 16 months to 2 years old. There will be music and activities, along with plenty of discussion time for parents to learn and share. The museum is also open for free play each day except Thursdays. More information can be found online at cmee.org.

Fun With Project Most

Project Most's art activity on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for 3 and 4-year-olds will have children practicing their lacing skills in a creative way. On Saturday, Jan. 30, there will be an activity focusing on color exploration and sorting skills at the same time.
Kids in kindergarten through the third grade can make "cloud dough" this Saturday at 11:30 a.m., and make little houses out of upcycled milk cartons next Saturday at the same time.

This Saturday's theme for the fourth, fifth, and sixth graders is birds. Children will listen to bird songs, then try their hand at drawing their feathered friends at 1 p.m. A bridge-building activity is planned for this age group next Saturday at the same time.

Project Most is also offering conversational Spanish classes for ages 4 through second grade and fitness classes for kids in the second through fifth grades.

All classes are $20 or $15 for members. There is also an in-person winter break camp coming up from Feb. 15 through 19. Three separate groups will be limited to 10 students each. Activities will include dance, art, fitness, science, sewing, reading, and more. It is open to children in prekindergarten through fifth grade from all school districts, and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an early drop-off and late pickup option. The cost is $350 for the week. Sign-up is by emailing [email protected] or by visiting projectmost.org.

Take and Make

This week, the East Hampton Library's young adult art project is waterless snow globes. Kits can be picked up in the library's lower-level teen room from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow.

There is also a wintertime reading challenge for young adults through the library. Participation in the teen programs and contests also boosts chances of earning prizes. Details can be found at easthamptonlibrary.org.

The library also connects teen volunteers with children in grades one through eight for homework help, games, and activities online. Called the Kids for Kids Enrichment Club, sessions are on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. via Zoom.
