The Bridgehampton Lions Club’s Carving Contest, a tradition anticipated by adults and kids alike, is moving to a new location and a new day of the week this year. Typically held on the Monday before Halloween, it will now be on Sunday at the Bridgehampton Museum’s Corwith House, across the street from its original location at the Community House.
Entries must be carved and ready for display. There will be prizes in more than a dozen categories, from old favorites like Classic Jack, Odd Lot, and Area 51 to new ones like U-Pick Protest, Mandala Nightlight, Steampunkin, and
Even Odder Lot. First-prize winners in each category will get $60; second prize is $40. Judges will also select the best of the best for Master Blade awards: $400 for first, $250 for second, and $150 for third. A full list of categories can be found at bridgehamptonlions.org.
The contest begins at 5 p.m. and is free. Contestants can submit up to three entries. Displays will be set up between 5 and 6, when there will be snacks and Milk Pail apple cider. The Bridgehampton School marimba club will play at 5:30, and Liz Joyce of Goat on a Boat will put on a puppet show at 5:45. Winners will be announced at 7:30.
