Update: A female pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Main Street in Amagansett Friday afternoon. The subsequent investigation closed the road for hours. 

It was by most accounts one of the best football seasons in Bonac history — and by all accounts, the best in recent memory. The East Hampton football team saw its historic run come to an end on Friday in the Suffolk County Division III semifinals, losing to Sayville 28-14. 

East Hampton scored six touchdowns in a dominant 48-7 win over Islip in the Suffolk County Division III quarterfinals on Friday. It was the first playoff victory in Coach Joe McKee’s 29-year career, and the first for Bonac since 1994. 

Both incumbent Democrats on the East Hampton Town Board, Cate Rogers and Ian Calder-Piedmonte, held onto their seats Tuesday night, warding off a challenge from J.P. Foster on the Republican line. Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez ran unopposed for her second term.

The two westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway over the Shinnecock Canal Bridge reopened in time for evening rush hour Tuesday, according to a statement released by a spokesman for the New York State Department of Transportation. Additional work will continue Wednesday.

Erosion following heavy rain led to the closure of both westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in the vicinity of the Shinnecock Canal late Friday morning. Westbound traffic over the bridge is restricted to the left roadside shoulder only, causing extremely long delays for travelers.

East Hampton Town police have ended a search for a 61-year-old woman who went missing Tuesday night from her family’s house on Manor Lane in Springs. This is a developing story.

The East Hampton Town Board voted Tuesday to end its relationship with R2 Architecture, the joint venture it had chosen in 2022 to design a new senior citizens center on Abraham’s Path in Amagansett, and said it would re-evaluate its plans for the facility.

A $2.2 million forest management contract for Napeague and Hither Hills State Parks, where the invasive southern pine beetle has killed thousands of trees and sparked concern about wildfires, will focus on areas adjacent to Montauk Highway and nearby residences and trails while creating additional access for fire departments to help reduce the risk to human life or property in the event of a wildfire, the governor said during a visit to Montauk Friday.
