Governor Announces Plan to Remove Dead Pine Trees

A $2.2 million forest management contract for Napeague and Hither Hills State Parks, where the invasive southern pine beetle has killed thousands of trees and sparked concern about wildfires, will focus on areas adjacent to Montauk Highway and nearby residences and trails while creating additional access for fire departments to help reduce the risk to human life or property in the event of a wildfire, the governor said during a visit to Montauk Friday.

Amagansett Principal Cleared of All Charges and Reinstated

A hearing officer assigned by the New York State Education Department to determine whether disciplinary charges should be brought against Maria Dorr, who was placed on paid leave in January of last year after being accused of stealing a $25 gift card, has found Ms. Dorr not guilty and ordered the district to reinstate her as principal and expunge the charges from her personnel record.
