Tribute to Lady Day
An evening celebrating the music and legacy of Billie Holliday will happen at the Southampton Cultural Center on Saturday evening at 7. Shanai Brown, winner of the Apollo Kids Star of tomorrow award, is known for her tribute performances, including “A Night With Lady Day,” which will feature music and storytelling.
The free program has been created, written, directed, and produced by Tramar Pettaway, an actor, singer, radio host, filmmaker, writer, director, and producer. A native of Southampton, he began performing at an early age in school plays, community theater productions, and with Opera of the Hamptons. As an actor he appeared as the Scarecrow in an Off Broadway production of “The Wiz” at Manhattan’s Dempsey Theater.
Sag Song Festival
More music can be enjoyed this weekend at The Church, where the Sag Harbor Song Festival will bring vocal performances Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday at noon. While some tickets remain for Sunday’s show, Friday’s and Saturday’s are sold out. Names are being taken on the website for waiting lists.
The programs will feature opera, musical theater, songs, and lieder.
The performers are Tessa McQueen and Elisa Sunshine, sopranos; Meridian Prall, a mezzo-soprano, Daniel O’Hearn, a tenor, Ben Taylor, a baritone, and Michael Sumuel, a bass baritone. Brad Woolbright is the event’s artistic director, and Robert Tweten, its music director.
