New at J. Mackey

“Chic Mystique,” a group exhibition, opens Thursday at the J. Mackey Gallery in East Hampton and will continue through July 28. A reception will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The featured artists are Lauren Altman, Brittany Atkinson, Phyllis Baker Hammond, Ellen Ball, Linda Colletta, Alyssa Fortin, Connie Fox, Andrea Keys Connell, William King, Jane Manus, Johanna Palmieri, Lyndal Vermette, and Ingrid Yuzly Mathurin. It is the first time Fox and King are being shown at the gallery.

In addition to her work in “Chic Mystique,” Hammond’s sculpture can be seen in a large-scale outdoor installation at Spring Close Farm, 92 Spring Close Highway in East Hampton, daily from 10 to 6 through Sept. 7.

Children’s Imagination

“Upside Down Zebra,” an exhibition that explores the artistic value of children’s imagination, its role in cognitive development, and its influence on contemporary art, will open Saturday at the Watermill Center with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

Organized by Brian Belott and Noah Khoshbin, the show features some 400 pieces of children’s artwork from the Rhoda Kellogg International Child Art Collection, presented along with works by over 35 contemporary artists who engage directly with Kellogg’s archive.

Among the contemporary artists are Carroll Dunham, Donald Baechler, Keith Sonnier, Andrea Pearlman, Daisy Sheff, Joe Bradley, Christopher Knowles, and Marria Pratts.

The exhibition will continue through Feb. 15, 2026.

Fourteen Photographers

The Lucore Art Gallery in Montauk will open “Sea Between,” a show of work by 14 Montauk-based photographers, with a reception Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. It will run through July 15.

The exhibition includes a range of photographic techniques, from film to digital to mixed-media collage, used by the artists to reveal overlooked beauty in the world around us.

The artists are Anahi DeCanio, Bartholomew Schwarz, Christina Napolillo, Grant Monahan, Harold Naideau, James Katsipis, Jarrett Steil, Joanna Steidle, Luciano Sapienza, Richard Silver, Ryan Sherman, Steven Corsano, and Tony Caramanico.

Five at LTV

“Practically,” a show curated by Haim Mizrahi of work by five artists, is on view at LTV Studios through July 18. A reception will happen on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. The participating artists are Antoinette Lanza, Chris Lucore, Zack Minskoff, Rocio Snyder, and Mr. Mizrahi.

Creative Workshops

“The Creator’s Hour — Artmaking With the Community,” a free series of hands-on workshops led by Linda White, an art educator, will take place Friday and Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons in Bridgehampton.

Participants of all ages have been invited to explore materials such as fabric, buttons, ribbon, and textured paper. No experience or talent is required; the workshops are about “the joy of making in the moment,” rather than creating a finished product to take home.

Painting in Nature

Barbara Thomas, an artist with extensive teaching experience, is particularly busy this season with workshops. She will be at Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton Thursday at 3 p.m. for a two-hour plein-air painting class. For those 15 and older, the cost is $95. Registration at peconiclandtrust.org will secure a supply list.

Friday morning at 10 she will be at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton for an unusual workshop. Instead of paint brushes, participants will use natural materials to draw, paint, print, and stencil. The cost is $85, $75 for members, and all materials will be provided. Registration is at longhouse.org.

This article has been modified from its original and print versions to include a number of artists whose names were not mentioned as part of the "Chic Mystique" exhibition at J. Mackey Gallery.

The New Victory Garden

Just as victory gardens brought fresh-grown produce to Americans during World War II, the East End Community Organic Farm and Bridge Gardens are two South Fork gardens offering a victory garden vibe.
