The benefit season is beginning to wind down, but the East Hampton Library’s Authors Night, one of the village’s most anticipated fund-raisers, will return on Saturday, under a tent in Herrick Park.
Among the most successful celebrations of books and writers in the country, the evening will feature 100 authors working across all genres. It is expected to draw more than 2,000 guests.
“As we celebrate the 21st anniversary of Authors Night, we’re excited to once again bring this beloved event to the heart of East Hampton Village,” Dennis Fabiszak, the library’s director, said. “The funds raised at Authors Night allow us to continue offering essential programs and services at the library — completely free of charge — to our diverse community all year long.”
The evening will begin at 5 with a cocktail reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and wine, and, most important, the authors, seated at tables with their books, which they are delighted to inscribe and sell. Tickets to the reception are $150.
Five hundred dollars entitles the buyer to attend both the reception and dinner at 8 with one or more authors at a private home. Among the dinner party luminaries are Griffin Dunne (“The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir”), Bobbi Brown (“Still Bobbi”), Alafair Burke (“The Note”), Barry Avrich (“The Devil Wears Rothko: The Art Scandal That Rocked the World”), and Rue Matthiessen (“Woman With Eyes Closed”), an art-theft novel set in Sagaponack.
One dinner will feature two authors of books about “Saturday Night Live,” Mary Ellen Matthews with “The Art of the SNL Portrait” and Susan Morrison, author of “Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live.” Foodies might be drawn to dinner with the Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli (“Italian American Forever: Classic Recipes for Everything You Want to Eat”) and the pastry chef Christina Tosi (“Bake Club: 101 Must-Have Moves for Your Kitchen”). Ms. Tosi will be Florence Fabricant’s guest at Guild Hall’s Stirring the Pot talk on Sunday morning.
This year’s signature dinner parties, priced at $1,000, feature Neil deGrasse Tyson, the celebrated astrophysicist, whose new book is “Merlin’s Tour of the Universe, Revised and Updated for the Twenty-First Century,” and Christie Brinkley, the supermodel and East End girl, with “Uptown Girl: A Memoir.”
Among the other notables at the reception are Molly Jong-Fast, Kelly Bishop, Maureen Dowd, and Lola Kirke, all of whom, along with Mr. Dunne and Ms. Matthiessen, are first-time participants. Returnees include Paul Goldberger, David Netto, Robert A. Caro, Zibby Owens, and Tom Clavin.
