Dec. 17, 1930 - Sept. 20, 2019

Theresa Scannella Vogel, a master gardener and longtime member of the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons, died at home in East Hampton on Friday. She was 88.

Known to her friends as Terry, she was born in the Bronx on Dec. 17, 1930, to the former Anna Deluca and Hannibal Scannella. As a young woman, she taught home economics in the Ardsley, N.Y., schools.

She married Edward Vogel in 1958, and the couple had two children. They enjoyed taking annual family summer trips to national parks and sailing Long Island Sound on the Lisa Ann, her father’s sailboat. They had been married 49 years when he died.

A patron of the arts and of charitable organizations, as well as many people less fortunate or in need, Mrs. Vogel loved taking Italian language classes, shopping for clothes, cooking for friends and family, and taking care of her dogs, said her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Vogel-Smolin of York, Pa., and Karen Day of Batavia, N.Y., and by four grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on a date to be announced.

The family has suggested memorial donations to the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons, P. O. Box 202, Bridgehampton 11932.
