Three historical sites in Amagansett will offer special events on Saturday for a formal observance of the hamlet’s maritime heritage.
The celebration happens at the East Hampton Town Marine Museum and the East End Classic Boat Society, both on Bluff Road, and the Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station, on Atlantic Avenue.
The celebration will begin at 9 a.m., when the Surfrider Foundation’s Eastern Long Island chapter leads a cleanup of Atlantic Avenue Beach. Guided tours of the 1902 Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station, which opened as a museum in 2017 and is now listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A marine science and conservation workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Marine Museum and the Classic Boat Society’s Hartjen-Richardson Community Boat Shop, which is behind the museum, will be open to the public, featuring family activities, workshops, and crafts.
Evan Harris of the Amagansett Library will read from books in the library’s collection pertaining to all things maritime — from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Marine Museum, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Boat Shop, and from 2:30 to 3:30 at the Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station.
All events are free and open to the public.
