Two Golfers From Here Take Titles at Smithtown

Thu, 07/02/2020 - 13:42

Sam O'Hara, a 15-year-old who lives in Rye, N.Y., and East Hampton, and who plays golf at the Maidstone Club, and Mia Sessa, a 16-year-old who plays at the East Hampton Golf Club, won the Long Island Boys and Girls Championship at the Smithtown Landing Golf Club on June 24.

That tournament apparently was the first the Long Island Golf Association has held during the coronavirus pandemic.

Shooting a four-under 68 on the course, O'Hara topped a dozen competitors to win the Long Island boys championship, and also won the Long Island junior title, besting 24 other competitors, one of whom was his clubmate George Roessler, who carded a 77.

Sessa won her title with a two-over 74, far outpacing her half-dozen opponents.
