Two I-Tri Events

Two  events for the I-Tri girls are to take place soon -- a Zoom and Facebook Live 30-minute youth triathlon Saturday morning and a revived Turbo Tri for adults and children that is to be contested throughout the month of July.

About 118 girls in Theresa Roden's internationally known empowerment program are expected to take part in Saturday's virtual event, scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., as are five professional female athletes who will cheer them on -- Dara Torres, winner of 12 Olympic medals in swimming, Gwen Jorgensen and Katie Zaferes, both International Triathlon Union world champions in recent years, Sarah Piampiano, an Ironman champion, and Mary Cain, a professional middle-distance runner.

Bridgehampton National Bank is the chief sponsor.

Those who would like to participate in July's Turbo Tri have been asked to sign up online at events.elitefeats.com/turbotri20. First-time triathletes can participate free. Two options are offered: a triathlon comprising a 300-yard swim, a 7-mile bike, and a 1.5-mile run, and a duathlon comprising a .75-mile run, a 3.5-mile bike, and a .75-mile run.

Montauk Mile Extended

The Old Montauk Athletic Club's Montauk Mile virtual competition has been extended through  Sunday, Jennifer Fowkes, OMAC's publicist, said in an email Monday. As of that day, "Sixty-five runners had sent in their times," she said, "and we expect many more."
