At the League Track Meet

Wed, 01/22/2020 - 11:24

East Hampton High’s girls and boys winter track teams finished at the bottom of the standings in league meets at Suffolk Community College-Brentwood over the weekend — the boys placing 10th among 11 teams, and the girls last.

Scoring for the girls were Penelope Greene, fourth in the 1,500 meters in 5 minutes and 5.88 seconds, Ava Engstrom, fifth in 3,000 in 11:25.71, and the sixth-place 4-by-400 relay team of Bella Espinoza, Engstrom, Greene, and Lillie Minskoff.

Mimi Fowkes might have placed fourth in the 1,500 racewalk had she not been disqualified for a bent knee, the girls coach, Yani Cuesta, said, adding that “the bright side is that half the team is new to track and has much to look forward to in the coming years.”

“We only had one person score points for us,” Ben Turnbull, the boys coach, said. The scorer was Luc Campbell, who finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles.
