NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, which the Hamptons Observatory describes as "the largest and most complex space science telescope ever built," will be the subject of the observatory's talk on Friday night at 7.

The telescope has the ability to explore the infrared spectrum. NASA expects to use it to view and study light from distant parts of the universe, building upon previous work done using the Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-ray Observatory, and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite.

The free virtual talk on Friday will be led by William Francis Taylor, who is the Hamptons Observatory's senior educator and a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador since 2014. The South Fork Natural History Museum is a co-host of the event. Advance sign-up is necessary and can be done at this link

A video recording of the observatory's previous lecture, on the European Space Agency's JUICE mission, can now be accessed online at this link.

More information on the Hamptons Observatory, which is a nonprofit organization, can be found at hamptonsobservatory.org.
