Next week is National Library Week — making it a perfect time to check out your local library.

The East Hampton Library's reference department will host a Zoom exploration of libraries around the world on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to mark National Library Week. "From the oldest to the quirkiest (and even some that are haunted!), this program will shine a light on what makes libraries so great!" the library said.

Just in time for National Library Week, the Montauk Library will be expanding its hours beginning Monday. It will open at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and will stay open until 6 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and until 8 on Wednesday and Friday. On Sunday the library will be open from 1 to 6 p.m.

The Montauk Library's budget vote and trustee election will take place on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.

Item of the Week: The Reverend and the Accabonac Tribe

This photostat of a deposition taken on Oct. 18, 1667, from East Hampton’s first minister, Thomas James, is one of the earliest records we have of “Ackobuak,” or “Accabonac,” as a place name.
