Montauk Hires East Hampton for Bus Maintenance

Thu, 06/15/2023 - 13:14
East Hampton School District administrators and school board members cut the ribbon on the district's new bus barn last summer.

When the East Hampton School District embarked on its new bus depot on Springs-Fireplace Road, the vision was for a facility that would be able to service buses for neighboring school districts as well.

That vision has begun to take shape. On Tuesday, the Montauk School Board approved an agreement with East Hampton for the maintenance of its school buses at the facility. The cost to Montauk will be $63.25 per hour plus parts, oil, fuel, and towing services if needed.

The Montauk School is in its second year operating its own fleet, and up to now has sent the buses to Bay Shore for servicing.

“The distance, the gas, the two drivers to get there and back” are burdensome, according to Jack Perna, the district superintendent. Montauk is “very happy that East Hampton is offering this service.”
